For the girl baseball fans: how many times have you have to prove yourself?

A lot of people think that use girl fans don't know a d**n thing about baseball except who the hot guys are. My question is...have you ever had to prove yourself so you were taken seriously? Also, do you think it's unfair that people assume us girls don't know anything about baseball? I've had to prove myself but after talking to several people here & my guy friends, they all see that I'm very passionate about baseball. There are several girls on here that know their baseball & I'm so glad to have met you ladies. :]

  1. All women should be given a fair chance to be in a conversation or anything. It is unfair, but only to people like you, me, Greta, all the other great ladies in my contacts. When you think about it, if 90% of the male population knew nothing about baseball (like the female population, as it is today) we would question their knowledge. haha since, sadly, a lot of the girl population knows nothing about baseball, I don't mind proving myself, that could just be because I love proving other people wrong, haha who knows :) But then of course, if I'm mocked before I've been given a chance, I won't stand for it - I hate that. After I've proven myself, I don't want to be questioned over it ever again. I hate the "hot" guy stereotype. Drop it, it's not true.

I've proved myself PLENTY of times, haha the first 2 I had to convince were my dad and brother. Now friends and even at a baseball game I had to. - I was at a Phillies game and a Mets fan told me I knew nothing about baseball and all this other stuff about being stupid and a fan of the Phillies for Chase Utley...(I'm a teen ager in high school, leave me alone! Sheesh!) So even though he was a 300 pound, 22ish year old man, I had some words with him. haha I'm not afraid to speak my mind, and I won't let anyone hold those preconcieved notions of me ;)

I'm very glad to have met great, knowledgeable ladies like you on here as well :]

  2. I know. I always have to prove myself. Guys always think it's the hot guys, we may think some of the players are hot, but that doesn't mean we don't like or know the game of baseball. We are true fans and we are as big of fans as some of the guys. We know a lot and we watch all the games, not all guys do that. I don't like when people judge either. and Thanks Scooter =]

    Good Question. Here's a star =]

  3. Yes all the time.  Then they realize I know more about baseball than they do and it makes them feel dumb.  They're kind of surprised when I can talk about some players most people don't know about and can rattle off stats and interesting facts!

  4. Well, I know I have sometimes but that's only to people I'm not good friends with.  Fellow fans that I'm friends with normally know that I'm not just the stereotypical female fan.  On here I do every once in a while but most people on here know that I know my stuff too.  I admit there are things I still need to learn (mainly about the history of baseball) but I do know my stuff.  Trust me, it always makes me happy to come on here b/c all you ladies really do know your stuff and it gives me some girls to talk to about baseball.

  5. Hey where ya been. I think u know a lot about baseball. Maybe more than me.

  6. i'm done, i don't prove to others, i don't want to prove to others. First of all guys don't even give me a chance. They just look at me weird and go "yeah right you like baseball?" and leave it at that.. Apparently asian girls can't like baseball.. that's usually their excuse..

They think i'm just some person who's trying to look cool or something i dunno. Forget em, i'm done with people like that. I won't even talk to them if they think i'm being fake. To be honest not a lot of people know i'm big on baseball and other sports. I admit i'm sort of a quiet person and its always a surprise like "YOU like sports?! O.O!" then the conversation starts going and some people accept it. :)

There are girl fans who make us real fans look bad. Those who ONLY like it because of good looking players.

    Its tough..

i don't have any girlfriends to talk baseball with. Not a lot of female baseball fans in the area..  it sucks let me tell ya i'm so alone! I'm so happy i got you girls in the baseball section because y'all know the sport and can still talk about who's cute ;)

  7. It gets me pretty upset when I'm not taken seriously. I will take most men down (not on here) but at the bar, or at the game, at a gathering...just about anywhere. Especially when it comes to the Brewers. I was born into a baseball family, baseball is in my blood and a major part of my life and when someone doubts me they're doubting me as a person.

Too many guys get to hear about how "cute" so and so is by casual female viewers. I dare them to judge me on anything but the facts.

By the way, thanks for this question

  8. I guess I'm in the minority, because I haven't really had to prove anything.

    However:

    1. I've never dated a baseball fan. My hubby hates it, so I certainly know more than him :)

    2. I always try to make it clear that while I have a decent knowledge of the sport, I'm no expert.

    3. I know who the hot guys are too!

    Good question. Star for you.

Hmm, did I get the thumbs down for marrying someone who dislikes BB or for the "hot guys" remark? LOL.

  9. I'm usually the one that starts talking baseball haha. I've never really had to prove myself, the more we get to talking, the more they figure out that I know my stuff. It's nice to have met you as well, lovely =]

  10. Not a girl. Though i give people all people benfit of doubt.

life is unfair get use to it.

  11. like more than 50 times. it seriously pisses me off, becuz they start talkin and then I step in and start to say some of the interesting facts about MLB and they give me credit and now they come and talk to me about baseball stuff. At the same time there will always be haters but I just gonna ignore them! The hot players r just like icing on the cake, cuz for me the game comes first and then cute boys!

p.s my uncle calls me the encyclopedia of MLB, NBA and Mexican soccer (ust thought I'd throw that in their!)

    luv the ?. Here's a star......new contact!!!!

  12. always.i love the rangers and boys never take me seriously.but some guys on here are nice and know some girls know there baseball.

  13. All the time. If I'm a fan of certain players it must be because there hot. Then I just tell them the stats of said players and that shuts them up. Plus I know every player on my team and other random stats about the Dodgers.

  14. Thank god theres others like me.i have always loved baseball and i am a HUGE yankees fan.i alwyas have to answers g*y a$$ questions to prove that i know my baseball.i love baseball with all my heart and will never stop

  15. Not a girl here but i agree with what you say. Some of u ladies here put some of the  guys to shame with your knowledge of baseball. Yourself YFFL Greta Bippy Mcpherson Arods#1 Fan Bailey Jen Cubs Fan Phils Fan i <3  the oakland Athletics & a couple of others i  may have missed(& i apologize for that) Are good examples of that & i give u ladies credit.

  16. My husband and I are HUGE Red Sox fans, and have been for quite some time (he has been since childhood, I've been one for about 10 years now).  Whenever we go to games with friends, I have to purposely not sit next to the girls because all they want to do is chat throughout the game.  All I want to do is watch, it drives me nuts because it's not social hour!!!  ITS BASEBALL!!!  I refuse to sit in the beer garden and I love to make all the haters shut their mouths.  (We live in Seattle-eek, Mariners!-and we're not shy about our Sox gear when we go to a M's vs. Sox game)  I feel like I am constantly having to prove myself, sometimes even to him!!

For example, today when we were at the grocery store, a little kid was walking in front of us wearing a Cubbies t-shirt with the name "Lee" on the back of it.  My husband turned to me and said, "What's his first name?"  To which I promptly replies, "Derek."  He was pleasantly amazed that I knew that.  Well, duh!!  I have a fantasy baseball team!  I watch the games!!

Sometimes I really have to prove myself because he is a bartender at Fox Sports Grill and all he does is talk talk talk sports all day long.  I don't work with him, so the knowledge I pick up is research and interest all on my own.  I love it!  But, yes, I do hate the fact that people (guys) assume that we women only know about sports by the hot guys on a team.  Whatever!!!

  17. Yes i had to prove myself a couple of times but i always manage to prove them wrong and i cant say that i hate that. I mean whats not to love at outsmarting a guy at baseball knowledge! I think it's fair that guys assume that women don't know about baseball, because lets be honest in general most women don't know squat. We however do, A Dime a Dozen ;)

P.S. Oh Casey! I also am the one who brings up baseball in conversations, i am deeply dissapointed when someone cant hold that conversation. Its like "so......."

  18. Thanks i KNOW you love Baseball, and yes like i asked in one of My questions as a girl i ALWAYS have to prove myself to my guy friends , and my Brothers i know baseball and if i make a Mistake they think and take it to serious, but at the end i know i love Baseball and care for it

  19. I'm a big Red Sox fan.

And of course, my boyfriend at the time and his friends didn't believe me.

So I named everyone who played for the Red Sox in 2007.

    That shut them up.

  20. Every day!

I mean, my family knows I'm the resident expert on the Rangers (I know a lot about the O's too, but my dad takes that prize).  They live with me and know how much I follow both these teams.

At school or with my friends, the guys just can't wrap their minds around the fact that I like baseball just for baseball, not for hot guys.  (Although I could name a few lol.)  And then once I convince them I really do love baseball, they don't believe that I know a lot about it.

They assume I just like watching it without understanding it.  ???

So then I have to prove that, yes, I do know what the infield fly rule is,   and yes, I can name the entire Rangers 40 man roster and who's currently on the DL, and yes, I do know the standings and the WC.

This seriously takes most of the school year to convince them.

And then the next school year starts and I begin this all over again.

And yeah, I love that I've met a lot of baseball loving girls here, including you.  Because honestly, none of my girl friends are really into baseball.  They try to get excited for me when I text them "the rangers won in walk-off style" but they just don't really understand.

So, it was great meeting all of you girls here.  I can't name you all but you know who you are.

  21. I'd love to find a girl who knows her baseball!  :)  Where are the girls like you out in Southern California?  lol
