What are you going to do with your dress? If you don't want to pay the money to preserve it how could you store it so it will keep as pretty as the day you wore it?

(I got marry at the end of May, and we are planning to do the small catholic wedding next year. My mom washed my dress and it looks awsome, like new. I don't want to pay all that money to preserve it, since I'll be using it next year, and after a wedding and a honeymoon we are broke).

Any suggestions???

  1. I am having a 'trash the dress' photo session the next day. I put the dress back on, hubby puts his tux back on.  We are going down to a local river/waterfall that is GORGEOUS and going to jump off the waterfall (only 6 feet high) and then do some photo shoots under the water falls.

EDIT: oh wait, I just read the rest of your thing. haha sorry about that.  Just get it cleaned and then put it in a zipped up garment bag.  It should be fine.  Just, obviously, keep it in a house with non-smokers, no pets and no children (they can be worse than the pets sometimes lol).  You may want to have it cleaned a couple weeks before you wear it again too.  Just to freshen it up

  2. Basically (I got mine done by the drycleaner but you can easily do this yourself) just get a nice big box then fold the dress neatly into the box with some paper around it - then close the box up well with lots of thick packing tape.  As long as there are no gaps for little critters to get through it should keep pretty well.

  3. If you're going to fold it - store it out of the light, in acid-free tissue paper. Light blue is actually a better choice than white, it will help the dress keep its colour better. (I've never quite understood that one myself).

You can hang it in a dry, dark closet. Make sure that it is hanging straight, and put a couple of blankets or a large plastic bag over it to keep it from getting wrinkled by other items. If you're worried about damp (mildew in the dress) then put a dish of baking soda in there, or else some volcanic rock.
