  1. Ball in hand by a long shot.

The trouble with in the kitchen is that it can reward a player for scratching if the opponents ball or ball are also in the kitchen. In fact I have often had people intentionally scratch so that I have to shoot a long bank just to hit my ball. It's a cheap shot but many a player will do this in an attempt to win.

  2. ball in hand

  3. BIH    BCA Standard Rules

  4. Kitchen (or bar rules) emphasizes luck, because of the factor that's already been mentioned of if your remaining object ball is in the kitchen forcing you to have to go to the long bank shot just to make contact.

Ball in hand emphasizes skill because it always penalizes the player that scratches.

That's my opinion anyway.....and like most here, I strongly, strongly prefer ball in hand....as is the case in most tournaments.

jjjgrl -- How hot is that?  Not that many girls play pool well, let alone understand the importance of defense in pool.  Very cool.

  5. Ball in hand mainly, because I am classically conditioned to the rules of tournament style play. Although if you play it right, in the kitchen can be a very valuable tool. Say for example, your opponent gets down to the 8 ball and it is behind the head string, a simple scratch would be the best defense (for those who want to huff over defense, it's 50% of the game).

  6. luck or talent?  I'd rather play a game where if I get beat its by skill.  BCA all the way.
