For the second time! READ CAREFULLY. Is it legal to paint car light COVERS!!?

I'm not dicking around with the actual light at all. Here's what I want to do. I want to go out, and buy plastic light covers for my car. They come off at night. I put the covers on during the day. I am not sure if it is legal to paint the PLASTIC COVERS. I do not think  it is legal. I have read this some where and it was not.

if they don't cover or interfere with brake lights, back up lights or turn signals it should be okay... but if you are required to day time run lights or run lights in construction zones or to run lights when running windsheild wipers, they will cause a problem for you.
