If you were ordered by your superiors, to disarm the american citizens, claimed it was for safety of the nation, or whatever reason or non reason given, would you disarm the citizens or defect and fight those in higher rank making such an order since the constitution says the americans have a right to have guns and they are making unconstitutional requests which is waging war on the citizens. Hypothetically. This is just hypothetical question. Please answer honestly.

  1. I agree, and it has been done before in generalized form.  When the National Guard is called to duty after catastrophic incidents such as natural disasters, hurricanes etc..... they are required to police the streets and I am sure it has included disarming civilians.

  2. I, (state your name) do solemly swear/affirm that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against ALL ENEMIES, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC......

Every enlisted person repeats this oath.  So, the answer is YES.  And, specially if the order is legal.

  3. this question was asked in the military since the korean war, and the answer was always no.

  4. I would do it.  It's not about being some mindless automaton following orders it would be about me giving my word that I would follow all legal orders of those appointed over me.  For the military to be used domestically like this something big would have had to have happened.

  5. I no Longer serve. And I believe the 2nd amendment was created for just the situation you Describe.  The government is not going to jump out and say "hello were being tyranical now", " taking your Freedoms, starting with your guns!"  so on the civilian side of it,  my answer is clear "FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!"  we're not talking about disarming people rioting on the streets. Your talking about military going Door to door (or with a list of gun registrations, more than likely) and taking law abiding citizens property and means of defence.

  6. I would follow my orders to the T. Unless it was an illegal order.

  7. If they were being idiots - rioting, shooting mass crowds or such...I would do it - as it would be a lawful order.  I would NOT do it for no reason...  And there is NO WAY I'd join the civilians, I'd rather stay put and get in trouble for not following orders than to turn my back on the military.

  8. If you mean the military was ordered to disarm all american citizens, no that would be an unlawful order and illegal. Why? because all servicemembers take an oath to uphold the constitution first. And notice that the officer oath has an implied task of defending the constitution and does not swear to follow orders of higher officers and the president unlike the enlisted oath. As an officer you are bound to uphold the constitution and not to follow any orders that tell you to do otherwise.  Same goes for the enlisted oath.

On the other hand if the american citizens were doing illegal things and threatening the US, then yes disarming them would be legal. But if you were ordered to disarm normal regular citizens that are doing nothing wrong, I would disarm the person giving that order and have that person arrested for violating the UCMJ and not upholding the oath to uphold the constitution.

    Enlisted Oath

I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.

    Officer Oath

"I, _____ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."

  9. Yes you civilians need to be herded and sometimes shaved fixed and put to sleep.  Consider yourself lucky if all I am doing if taking your weapon.

  10. Absolutely not.

Unlike most people I do not believe that my job or the job of those above me is to know how to keep you safe better than you know how to keep yourself safe. The day I get orders that this blatantly go against citizens is the day I walk.

I'll proudly accept any discharge they throw at me for it.
