what else do you use?? My husband and I have been married for 3 years and I've gone through 4 different types of BC's and they've all given me terrible side effects. So far we're using condoms, but I'd like to use something else that's a little more reliable. Has anyone tried the Nuva ring, patch, Implanon, IUD <even though I've never had kids, can I get that!?> or anything else? Thanks!

  1. the ring works just like the pill and so does the patch so if its the hormones you can't take, then those two other options are probably not open to you. I would say try the IUD. Most birth controls, including the shot, (which is horrible for your bones and you can't be on it for more than 2 years, i think) have hormones in them, other than mechanical protection.

  2. I've never had children and I cannot get birth control. I just got the Mirena IUD inserted last week. It was rather painful getting it inserted but will be worth the pain in the end.

The gyn. will have to measure your cervix to see if you are a good candidate. It used to be that only women who've had children could get a Mirena but my Gyn. says that rule has changed. So far its working out well for me.
