  1. I don't mean for this to sound rude to anyone that is of this decent, but I had downstairs neighbors that were Indian, and they were constantly cooking.

For some reason it seemed like the smell came right up into our apartment. At first it just always made me crave Indian food, but eventually the smell got into EVERYTHING.  our clothing, our sheets, carpet bath towels.  No matter what we did our place always smelled like Indian food.  I had to move out ASAP.

I would have rather had noisy kids.

  2. Everybody has rented an apartment once at least in his/her life. I rented an apartment so many years ago.  I lived upstairs with my husband and the guy downstairs always complaint us being noisy walking.  We did not intent to make any noise but the structure is made of wood so a little bit of noise is inevitable. He called the manager came to inspect, used a broom knock on our kitchen floor while I was cooking, then the worst I saw him one time at the parking lot to use his key to scratch my husband's new car on the side. It was so annoying to us and finally I found they had a kitten in their balcony which was not allowed at the complex so I reported him and he was evicted.

It's much better to have your own house with nobody above or below. I'm really enjoy the peace of living in my own place.

  3. The halucinating neighbour who would cry incessantly about her previous abortions and not having money for her 'infection' while her children raised themselves. An 11 year old girl who wore pampers and a 4 year old who tried to kill any animal he could get his hands on. Oh ya then there was the on/off boyfriend who lived there about 1-2 days a week. They'd break everything in the apartment while fighting and then he'd leave, take the kids for a few days...drop em off and then she'd start crying again.

  4. i was the awful neighbor, it was my first apartment when i was 18, and i moved in summer. and i had parties literally every night. there were so many complaints made that one more and i was going to get evicted. so i bought out of the lease so i could keep a good rental record. but i could imagine how annoying i must have been, having 10 to 15 people over all the time and drinking till all hours of the morning.

  5. Let's see:

Crazy 50 year old hairy nudist who actually ripped his blinds down and walked around in the nude with his apartment facing the complex playground!! I also had an older lady who would go to sleep with the stove going and the fire department would show up at least 4 times a week to take care of it. Let's not go into the drug dealer across the hall that got himself busted at 4 am, or the guy who came looking for his wife and put a gun in my face.  I got to know the cops in Denver by name after a while.

I am really hoping my next set of neighbors are nice and maybe somewhat quite.

  6. At my last complex, units faced each other across a small yard, maybe 30-40 feet across. Directly across from us lived this woman and there were always so many people coming and going, I couldn’t tell how many others lived there.

She would always have c**p out in the common yard: her garbage (which she was too lazy to carry to the dumpster), her kids bikes & toys, etc.

She was apparently divorced and her ex would sometimes come over to get the kids. On more than one occasion, she would refuse to open the door claiming it wasn’t his day to visit. At least twice, she called the cops on him, and the second time I could hear the cops tell her that this was getting ridiculous, i.e. “Work this out yourself.”

She was beyond loud!  I love to have my windows open whenever I can, but with her, it was impossible. She would stand out in the yard having loud phone conversations at all hours. When her friends/family came over, they were all equally loud. It was like they were standing in my living room instead of across my yard.

When she drove her kid to school every morning, she would pull her car to the sidewalk leading out of our yard while waiting for him to come out. I happened to head to work at the same time so in rain & snow, I would have to walk through the muddy yard to get around her car while she just sat there. Even better, where she parked often blocked my ability to back out of my space.

More than once, her older kid left door dings in my car doors. And at least once, her kids and their friends were out throwing firecrackers at the doors on my side.

  7. One of many

A nurse who lived upstairs, she worked second shift. Not a carpet in the hardwood floor apartment, never took her shoes off, never raised her feet when she walked. 2 am TV on, stereo blaring, she was enjoying her evening, just home from work, the same as me at 6PM. Didn't faze her a bit.

  8. The lady who lived above me and liked to clean at 2am was pretty bad. She ran the vacuum and scrubbed her balcony at odd hours in the night, then pushed all the nasty scrub water over the balcony where it splashed onto MY patio. All this while blasting Ricki Martin.

To be fair... it was probably karma for my first rental, where on my first night in I "celebrated" with my boyfriend. The shouts and bangs on the wall to "shut the h**l up" at midnight let me know that I needed to move my bed to the opposite wall.

  9. a guy who use to get drunk (like falling down the stairs drunk) and play the drums at 3:00 in the morning when he got home from work (a bar).  And then when you knocked and ask him to stop- he was so drunk he would talk to you for hours or follow you back your apartment- impossible to get rid of... and sometimes "forget" within 20 mins and go back to playing the drums.  And he was like one of those 45 year old men who wanted to be in a heavy metal band like white snake but never made it.....  and use to wear leather pants in 100 degree weather, just lovely since I was a 23 year old woman and would have to deal with this loser.   He finally got kicked out after EVERYONE on the floor threaten to move and break their lease.

Oh and he thought he was super s**y and hit on all the women in the building.  And the weekends were worst because then their was 5 of them having "band" practice!!  UGH!
