Just wanted someone elses opinion as to what went on lastnight here, in Omaha NE. IMO it was a tornado. Maybe a rain wrapped tornado.

  1. From the amount of damage, I'd say a tornado, but no weather people or storm trackers have confirmed that so at this time I guess it was just a lot of really strong wind.  Crazy huh?  We lost power at both my mom's and our house.  Ours came back at 2:30 am, my mom says her still doesn't work right.  It's not on strong enough I guess.  When I was driving to my mom's basement the gusts of wind made it look like a tornado to me, but I'm no expert.

  2. Straight line winds are generally more powerful than tornadic winds.  I always think it is funny that people seem to think strong winds equate to tornados.  That's simply not the case.

"The wind was so strong, it must have been a tornado" is a fallacy of logic.

  3. i live in omaha and it wasnt a tornado

all the damage was from straight line winds

if there was a tornade then alot of homes would've been damaged but not alot were

  4. Not a tornado- radar and evidence proves this. Look at the patterns of grass and crops laid over in straight lines, or how most of the branches are pushed over to the East.

80 mph winds, with pulses even faster, is Beaufort Scale #12- true hurricane-strength wind. It does not need rotation to cause lots of damage, just look at any hurricane to hit land!

  5. It was not a tornado..

I live in Omaha and first off, the reasons the sirens went off is they are going through new procedures where 911 can set off the tornado sirens if they feel the weather is in dangerously arms way.. it was just because of the strong winds.. 90mph winds!

So, now the sirens can go off even if there isn't a tornado! (good to know though!)
