One would think I'd be use to the snow by now. I've only grown up in the Firelands area of Ohio {north centeral} and now live in S.W. Michigan! Ok I am use to the snow by now. But driving in it, and or riding in the car when someone else is driving in it makes me extra edgy and nervous. Sweaty palms, racing heart, jittery. I know if I relax it would be a little better, but when it comes to snow covered roads I don't know how to relax. Not at all. About a week and a half ago my mother-in-law was taking me home from work and I began to relax {for the first time in a few years of driving on snow} and we spun off the road. I am happy that one of the doctors in the hospital where I work who even knew me had a tow rope in the back of his car and that day was able to pull us out of side of the road. Nothing was hurt, so him coming by was truely a God send! Please tell me how I can relax regardless of if it is me driving or someone else, especially with lots of snow on the roads.

  1. you just need to drive at a speed that you feel comfortable, brake early NOT HARD, if you have a front wheel drive car u should be fine, if u have a rear wheel drive vehicle put weight in the back, and learn how to use the abs brakes, you pump them, not stomp them

  2. i live in wisconsin i know the roads are very hazzardeousto drive but ,from my experiences is to drove slowly,as i found out here a person driving, that causes an accident, could be fined for driving to fast for conditions of the road, may it be wet,dry or snow covered. so i drive very very slow, make sure i warm my automobile prior to driving to be comfortable, and listen to music, enjoy the ride ,take your time , sing songs with your daughters. this is  thru my experiences....hope this may help

  3. Maybe you should move to somewhere where it doesnt snow

or get a truck with good tires so you will be a little safer.

  4. drive slow, if you get where you want to go a bit late at least you have your life. have a heavier (large suv or something) vehicle with good tires and abs system.

dont be nervous, if you are that alone might just make something bad happen it is best to be attentive while driving not scared

  5. No matter what you're probably going to stress about this and the best way to relax is by focusing on your breathing (especially when you're not the one driving)

Something that may help how you drive in adverse conditions would be driving around an empty snow covered parking lot.  Try braking, try turning... get used to the feeling of your car in the snow in a safe enviroment.

If none of this seems to help you maybe you should either stay off the roads during storms or seek professional help for anxiety.

    Best of luck!

  6. start out earlier in bad weather. take your time, drive slower. im nervous too so i listen to the radio. if you are with someone else i suggest reading. when i drive my daughter reads to keep her mind off how bad it is out.

  7. try to have fun with it its only snow.

  8. its hard to relax when your not in control, even myself having logged over 1.000.000.000 miles over the road,my butt still puckers and tries to suck the foam out of the seat whenever the wheather turns bad.
