  1. no that what  cats do jujustkkeepthem out of  that room

  2. He could be as it is known for cats to scratch furniture.  However I have 2, 4 month old cats and a leather settee and they do not scratch it they have a large scratching post so use that instead.

  3. yes!   but kittens can be easily trained with treats, scratching posts, scratching pads filled with catnip, occasional squirt w/ water bottle....and until then toss throws & blankets all over the couch maybe

  4. Get a throw for part of the sofa and only let the cat on that part!

If you train it well he wont scratch the sofa!

  5. There is no reason why a cat should ruin your sofa.  It's true, cats can scratch furniture but they don't if you give them a good scratching post and tell them off if you see them scratching anything else. Just telling  cat "No" firmly will be enough, they are intelligent creatures and learn fast.

  6. Ehm... it depends from the cat. I have a leather sofa too, but my cat doesn't destroy it because she skids on it! She prefer the pads of the chairs....... but you can't be sure that another cat will do the same!

  7. Have a 2 year old male Bengal ''Shah'' and a cream leather settee........which cost less than 800 pounds but has been scratched to bits.

    But still love Shah!!!!!

  8. Depends. You can buy sticky things that their claws stick to it puts them off aha, + maybe you'll get lucky and have a nice cat lol. Dooo get one they are lovely (L)

  9. He is right - i have two cats and a leather sofa with claw holes around it. Unless you keep the cat out of the room with the leather sofa in, your cat will intend on sharpening its claws on it .

  10. I say get rid of the materialistic hubby, go to your local shelter and adopt TWO cats :)

  11. It's quite possible for a cat to damage leather.

Even if the cat doesn't scratch, it could dig it's claws in.  If your husband is at all concerned then, as someone else has suggested, it's probably not the pet for your household.

Consider also that not only do you need to worry about the scratching element but you need to bear in mind the fact that if the cat is unwell, it could be sick or have a bout of diarrhoea or even just tread in something, leap onto the sofa and stain it!

I've had cats in my household for over 40 years and have had the unenviable task on numerous occasions of having to clear up 'little messes' from furniture - not a pleasant task!!!!

  12. Tell your hubby that only dogs ruin your leather sofa, not cats.

  13. i have 6 cats, no ruined furniture, get a scratch post, works for me,

  14. ive had my cat for ten years and yes she scraches the settee even when has her a post

  15. it is possible because we've got a leather sofa and there's a few scratches on the back of it where hes stretched up on it

but one thing i can say is hes destroyed our carpet and a bed cover and i mean destroyed them btw we have a good scratching post but he still uses the carpet  everybody who got the thumbs down was because she didnt  want to hear the truth lol

  16. no my cat doesn't touch our leather sofa

  17. I must admit i think he's right but then i have 3 cats, 2 of which are 7 & 8, 1 of them her claws stick out a bit more than norm & she's a nervous cat so any big noise she run's & caught the sofa on way out! not good! then i got a kitten & he would play hide & pounce from the sofa & there are now quite a few marks on my leather!!! but other than that you can keep them off the sofa they can be trained, especially from an early or even late age so good luck!!

P.S I did use throws & they didn't wrk! the claws go thru!!

  18. We have a cat, we don't have a leather sofa however, but the cat has never scratched the furniture or curtains, if it wants to claw, then it goes outside and does it up a tree.  You can train a cat not to claw the furniture, they are quite quick learners, just don't leave it alone in that room for long periods of time.

  19. that's not comletely true, you can just try and train it not to go near the couch, and just give it a bed and some toys so it wont get bored and get tempted to claw at the couch

  20. He's wrong.  I have one expensive sofa and I don't let the cat in that room.  I have another sofa and he has never damaged it.

  21. Never mind the sofa! unless your BOTH  prepared to love and care for a kitten only then should you even think about it. Cats are living creatures that need to be loved and unless you both want a kitten 100% regardless  of the mischief they may get up to, anyhow you would need to provide a scratch post for your kitten and even at that nobody could guarantee you that he/she would not scratch the furniture but if your furniture is soo precious maybe a cat is not for you.

  22. no i luv cats but a simple town and some little box training can prevent ur cat from messing up the sofa

  23. I think the cat could and probably would scratch the sofa.  Even if he doesn't scratch it to sharpen his claws, it could still be punctured when the cat jumps up on to it, or if he is laying on it and is startled.  Luckily for me, we already had the cat before we bought the sofa.  So instead of no cat, we have no leather sofa.  If it is possible, you could keep him out of that room, but most rooms with sofas, such as family rooms and living rooms, don't have doors to close the cat out of there.

    Hope I helped!
