Have any of you ladies noticed increased hair growth in the following areas:

- chest / cleavage / in between the b*****s

- stomach

- lower back

- arms and lefs

- face / chin, sideburns and neck area

'Cos I have and I'm wanting to know if it's 'cos of my underactive thyroid problem or if it could be due to another hormonal problem? Do any of you ladies have the same problem? I had a blood test done to check for PCOS but apparently I don't have that, this was about a year back and since then I've noticed the increase in hair growth, it's been almost 4 years since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Doctors don't really seem to pay attention to my hair growth problem, they just said to get it waxed or something, which obviously I am but I just feel there's another underlying problem and I'd like to know if any other ladies who have hypothyroidism have the same problem.

Thanks for your answers, God bless you all xx

  1. I can't say I've noticed any increased hair growth since I had most of my thyroid removed in 1990. My metabolism is slow and I do find it harder to lose weight, especially since I haven't been prescribed Thyroxin yet. Doctors don't seem much interested in Hypothyroidism once you've had surgery/initial treatment so my advice would be to be determined and keep complaining about your symptoms. I've just had a blood test to check my levels today because of tiredness. I hope you find the answer and treatment to sort out your symptoms.  :0)

  2. u are not alone, i have noticed hair in new places, my leg hair grows much quicker than it used to and i have more hair on my face, ,luckily i'm fair so i manage to get away with it, i do get hair on my stomach tho not alot but some which is gross, even tho i take thyroxine.

as for the weight thing, i was struggling to lose weight, when i went to the docs to ask if it was because of the problem but they said it wasn't and that it was my contraceptive pill but tbh i didn't believe them, before i had the thyroid problem weight wasn't an issue, i was prone to gaining weight but i could always loose it again but since the thyroid prob its been harder to lose it and as a result i did gain a lot of weight, i'm in a slimming class now and that seems to be working thankfully. maybe ask your doc to check your levels, u might need to up your dose
