For those who have been in the Marines

Question

they say to only bring the clothes your wearing and $20 when you go to basic for the Marine's and I was wondering if you get to stop somewhere to get tooth brush, soap, stuff like that? And another question I have, is the ASVAB test kinda hard or is it pretty simple.

Any extra stuff that you can tell me would be great.

i know that you have to bring important papers with you and i think they give you everything thing you need

The USMC will provide everything you need in BOOT camp (not basic).  Whatever you buy will be deducted from your first check.  Whatever you do, don't send any food product to him in boot camp as the DI's will mess with him because of it.  Just send him lots of letters and info from home...the guys will crave normal news because you are totally isolated and have no idea what is going on in the world.  Just simple, mundane things mean a lot and he can share it with the rest of the recruits.  Write often...he'll get lonely.

As for the ASVAB...I thought it was very easy but some guys have difficulty with it.  This can come back to bite you when choosing an MOS (Military Operational Specialty).

You will be supplied with everything you need, and it'll be deducted from your first paycheck.  

The ASVAB was a fairly easy test I felt, but was on the boring side for sure.  It was similar to the TAAS test, or whatever state test you may have.

they take you to the px and give you like 200 to get everything(actually they deduct from your check)

They will supply you with the things you will need. ASVAB isn't that bad. Both of my sons passed it with flying colors.
