What do you do and NOT do with your rabbits?

What are the do's and don't's?

Do you ever let your pet rabbit outside? spray pest repellant on him? bath him once a week?

  1. well i have had one of my rabbits for almost 4 years, so i'll just give you a list of stuff that would be good to avoid and some helpers...

    Poiters:

#letting them outside is a good thing to do cuz it gives them exercises and fresh air, but it's best to make sure that they are in a pen, or fenced area or they might try to escape, also they have leashes and stuff at pet stores or even some really small dog harnesses, but not a collar, or it could choke them.

#bathing is okay, but you should only do it if your rabbit is visibly dirty with pee or pooh or something or smells too horrible to take anymore, but you have to be carefull not to get water in their ears, they could go def but not always it's not god though.

#rabbits always need hay! not straw (the yellow stuff) i use timothy hay but a few others are okay, alfalfa isn't the best though. they need the hay because it cleans out their digestive system, that way it can clean out any extra pellets or fur balls, fur balls can be deadly. the hay is also the best fiber source.

    # fruits and veggies are great for rabbits, it gives them a sweet treat and good vitamins and such. lettuce, carrots, cilantro, bananas, apple, and papaya (good if rabbit has digestive problems, like hay it cleans out their systems, but not the black seed things), are all good onces that i have tried already and know are safe, try to avoid most all other fruits and veggies, some people give their rabbits others, but these are the ones im confident with.

#Do not put bug repelant on a rabbit! alot of the repelents are toxic if swallowed, they might l**k themselves and could get sick and die.

#try to check everything every once in a while, like eyes for conjunctivitus, blindness, weapy eye, or eye spots. nose for snuffles (just like a rabbit cold basically), runnyness, and anything out of the ordinary. legs straightness, or broken bones. feet for sorehawks and toenails to see if any are broken. ears for ear mites, or injuries, just everywhere!

    # trim the claws at least every 2 weeks to avoid breaking the nails, or toes on cages.

#give the rabbit in it's cage (if it's a wire bottom cage) something to sit on besides the cold metal wires, like a pice of flat wood, or special floor matts made from plastic, or woven straw stuff. whithout one if your rabbit is heavy they could get sorehawks, which are woonds on the feet.

    # don't feed a rabbit too much if they eat too much they could suffer from obesity just like humans can, depending on the size they need usually at least a half a cup for some of the smaller breeds.

sorry if this was really long, but here are the basics, if you have anymore questions just ask

  2. Well first to answer your question on letting them outside it depends on your area if it is safe and secure then yes a supervised play time is great but only you know if it is an area free of harmful insects such as fleas or tics it is always a good thing to at least brush them thoroughly upon coming back inside they do have fur which hides a lot as far as washing your rabbit I would suggest going to almost any pet store and getting a so called dry shampoo which is actually a foam but ni water is involved to much water is very hard on their fur and can cause a dry skin issue I would never spray anything like a pest repellent on a rabbit without it being tested for rabbits first and not on my pst rabbit

this is a terrific rabbit link

    DO play with them daily

    DO NOT spray with repellant

DO NOT let them out if their bottoms are dirty (see:FLY STRIKE)

they dont need baths..unless their bums are dirty

outside on a harness is great BUT NOT if you have chemicals on your lawn

make sure they get carrots and least 4 times a week
