For those who have rabbits or have ever had one...?

I have a rabbit and he causes so much dust in the room I keep him in. It's pretty much a layer of dust over everything. I use Carefree Pet Bedding in his cage, but when he starts scratching at it, that's when I am assuming the dust flies up...Is it because I'm not chaning the bedding enough. I'll admit, I don't change it as often as I should so it's not always fresh.

Why does the dust come up? Would that happen if I changed the bedding more?

  1. use pine chips

  2. Carefresh is probably a very dusty litter, and I don't think changing it more often would make a difference, though you should definitely keep it clean for other reasons!  You have probably noticed he usually goes to the bathroom in one corner of the cage. You should put a litterbox in that corner and cover the floor of the cage with indoor/outdoor carpet or linoleum instead of bedding (or even cardboard) and just put the litter in the box.   You could try a different litter such as Feline Pine, which I LOVE.  But in anycase, keeping the litter to just the litterbox probably would reduce dust.
