  1. Maybe: Annie sings it when she is wondering if she is really an orphan and hoping that maybe someday her parents will come back for her. SHe is thinking that maybe they are somewhere in the world, feeling bad that they gave her up. Shis is singing it as a lullaby for another little girl who is at the orphanage.

Getting to know you is sung by Anna in the king and I, she is getting to know the little kids who belong to the king (all from different wives). Basically self explanitory.

Oh and Anna is getting to know the kids because she was hired to be their teacher.

  2. In each play, the lead female singer sings the suggested songs. Anna in the KIng and I sings getting to know you to the children of the King; and Annie sings Maybe as she contemplates her parents one lonely night in the orphanage.  Wonderful pieces, both of them.

  3. Annie  sing maybe she is an orphan, wondering about her parents, what they look like what they are doing why they left her, she crys when she is singing it... I dont know the other one.
