  1. Oh, I certainly hope not!  Then what would I have 2 dream about?

  2. When two people (male and female) marry the women loses her last name.

  3. I'm not a big fan of proposing "abolishing" things that other people might choose to do with their lives and that don't affect mine.

  4. Um, NO! It's a conjoined decision to get married. Both should be equally willing.

  5. aw i opened this question because i thought it sounded interesting, and then i saw that you had nothing to explain it. can you elaborate a little more on this question?

  6. How would this help matters?

  7. The two bear absolutely no relation. Marriage is the union of two people who love eachother what's this got to do with equality?

  8. I don't think so, since marriage is a common agreement between two individuals with equal rights.

  9. Yes. Marriage is complete waste of time. Thankfully among heterosexuals marriage is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

  10. I don't like marriage but I don't feel I have the right to abolish it-it's very important to many people; even though I don't think it's great for men or women.

  11. Only if the man admits he's only getting married to have s*x and have someone to clean up after him.

Or if the woman admits she's only getting married so someone can buy her things and she can stay home and not work, or shop all day

What if the woman gets sick, who will take care of her

I think all men need to know how to cook, clean, and care for children.

What if the man gets injured who will work and pay the bills

I think all women should have a "legal" skill that  they can use to get a well paying job

Otherwise no let people get married, as long as they are getting married for the right reasons and intend to share all things that they can share 50/50

  12. I think you could make a very interesting argument with that statement.

Married women are commonly economicly disadvantaged after the marriage is disolved, they are less likely to have advanced education, and more likely to stay in a relationship that is unsatisfying.

    Bravo on the question.

  13. .....Do you have anything to back up your implication that marriage is inherently sexist against either men or women?'

How has the meaning of marriage changed in the courts, again?

  14. No, as noted above, marriage is a voluntary partnership, with 50/50 participation and accountability for both members of it.

To Aphrodite: Not in every country of the world the woman loses her last name. I am married and I keep my last name. I understand that even in the US the change of last names is not mandatory.

  15. Last time I checked, marriage was a partnership, not an ownership.

  16. Marriage is a choice made by 2 adults, so be it

  17. No. What does marriage have to do with equality of the sexes? Marriage is about a union between 2 people who love each other. It has nothing to do with one of them being superior or inferior.

  18. Marriage is a freedom that has Biblical roots, that's why there has been so much controversy about g*y marriage. You can't abolish something that is a act of religious freedom. In this country you are not forced into marriage, you willingly participate. Why would you want to abolish something that would take away from peoples right to worship or make choices?

  19. No, I don't think so. A marriage is a 50/50 partnership of 2 equal people. How does that clash with equality?
