Since Jello brand gelatin is an animal based product, is it ok to eat it if one is a vegetarian or vegan (since it isn't exactly meat)???

  1. no. not in my book. it is eating part of a defenceless animal

  2. I do not eat jello because it is gross....

but also, you should know that there are different types of vegetarians. most vegetarians are lacto ovo vegetarians, meaning that they eat eggs and drink milk... it's hard to find things like bread that don't have milk or eggs in it.

  3. NO!! it is Elmer's glue with sugar and flavoring..ick!!

  4. Gelatin is animal flesh.

By definition vegetarians and vegans don't eat animal flesh.

  5. I dont because it is made from animal fat. Im vegan though. Some vegitarians dont either. Also poptarts are also made with animal fat. hope i helped:]

  6. Not to me, perhaps it depends why you are vegetarian. I don't really see how it is different than eating meat, gelatin is extracted from collagen of slaughtered animals, same goes for things like lard, if you're a vegetarian because you don't want to kill animals there is no difference between these and meat.

  7. Absolutely not. I gave up Jello knowing where it came from BEFORE I went veg. Yuck!!!

  8. i'm not either one of those, but my mom's a vegetarian. she became this when she decided that it was wrong to make any animal suffer. gelatin's made up of ground up animal bones, so, yeah the animal suffered. so my answer's no, you shouldn't eat it.

  9. I don't.  But to be honest, my extended family is overly fond of the stuff, and I developed a real hatred for anything that wiggled.  So even though I'm veggie for health rather than ethical reasons, I'll say, "Oh, can't, it's not vegetarian."  I agree with my younger cousins, who say it's really hard to see how it was ever a part of an animal!

I do use Jell-o pudding mixes sometimes.  Ironically enough, those can fit quite snugly into a lacto-vegetarian diet.

  10. i am a vegetarian:

i do eat jello SOMETIMES, but i don't go out of my way for it.

i don't think vegans should have jello, because eggs/cheese/etc aren't meat either, but vegans don't eat any products coming from animals.

it also depends on how strict you are, but if you aren't a vegan i definitely think that a little jello every once in a while would be okay.

    =] good luck

  11. of course not, its a slaughter by-product

vegetarians would choose a vegetable based thickener, there are several around.

  12. No, it is not vegetarian or vegan so how could someone eat it and be either.

  13. No, I don't eat gelatin (any brand) because it's a dead animal and veg*ns don't eat dead animals.

  14. jelitan is classified as Kosher and thereby not having any meat quality left due to a large ammount of processing involved it is therefor concidered suitable for vegatarians. if you don1t believe it  look it up..

  15. i dont eat it just because gelatin is plain nasty. i mean, do u know how they make it? ewww... lol but i guess if you only care about the MEAT than w/e. your not a true vegan.. lol jk!

  16. No, vegetarians do not eat it as gelatine is an animal derivative containing hoof and other disgusting animal material.

  17. I wouldn't. It's made from animal hide and bones. But if you don't mind eating it as long as it's not the actual meat you're chewing on,then go ahead. But as a fairly strict Vegetarian,I wouldn't.

  18. no i don't.  some do.  it depends how far they want to go with it.  but most vegetarians i know, once they know what gelatin is, try to avoid it.

  19. Only you can know what you feel comfortable eating. No one should tell you what it is ok or not ok for you to eat. If you feel that you don't feel bad eating Jello or that you do feel bad, that is your choice. I am a vegetarian and eat Jello and marshmallows simply because even though I know it is made from animals I cant really believe it. Not that i don't believe it I just feel no guilt eating it. My sister tries to tell my other sister that she is not a "real" vegetarian for eating marshmallows.

  20. We also avoid slaughter by products.  If it comes from a dead animal, we don't eat it.

  21. I'm a vegan and no, I don't eat Jell-O brand gelatin. There are vegan friendly varieties out there.

  22. h**l no.  An animal DIED for that.  I'm not eating it.
