  1. The L/D ratio is the Length divided by the Displacement.  They usually do it the other way:  D/L.  For example:  If your boat is 30' long and weighs 12000 pounds, the D/L would be 400.  If it weighed 9000 pounds, it would be 300.  The greater the D/L, the heavier the boat, and the more likely it would be seaworthy.
