  1. You could become President one day and you don't want to make the same mistakes Bush Jr. did.

If you have a basic knowledge of history, you won't

  2. So thing like the Holocaust can never be repeated.

  3. We study history so we do not make the same mistakes as we have in the past. That's what's the point of it though some people don't stop the mistakes. Iraq is much like Vietnam.

    I hoped this helped!

  4. David C. McCullough said of history, "History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are."

Ambrose Bierce defined history as "An account mostly false, of events mostly unimportant, which are brought about by rulers mostly knaves, and soldiers mostly fools."

A lot of people think they know what George Santayana had to say on the subject.  The quote is actually "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."  Those same people rarely know that he also said "History is a pack of lies about events that never happened told by people who weren't there."

I study history because I see the world around me and wonder how it came to this and what things will become from this.  I am fascinated by people who and things that were here before me and will be here after me.  History at once gives us a taste of immortality and a vision of the future.

  5. AUTHOR: John Buchan (1875–1940)

QUOTATION: History gives us a kind of chart, and we dare not surrender even a small rushlight in the darkness. The hasty reformer who does not remember the past will find himself condemned to repeat it.

  6. "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it."

It's exactly why. If nobody learned the history of other people's mistakes, we'd repeat them over and over again, and society would go nowhere. They teach it in school so that you can make informed decisions when you vote or simply choose which side of an issue to take.

We'll go no place fast if a bunch of idiots choose sides or candidates that are setting themselves up for a bad outcome that happened in the past.
