Question:

For women who had an Epidural during Child birth?

The last time I gave birth was 5.5 years ago. I had an Epidural (wow, was THAT amazing after doing it drug free with my first). However.....ever since having my daughter, I can not stand it when my husband puts his fingers on or close to my spine in the area that the Epidural was administered. It is extremely sensitive, almost painful but not....just tender in that one area...sensitive I guess is the best word. It gives me serious heebie geebies when he puts his fingers there and applies pressure during a massage or even when rubbing my back. I was wondering if any other women have this sensitivity, or if I'm all by myself? Thanks!

  1. I gave birth twice. 1 in 2001 and 2nd time in 2008. Both had epidurals. Nothing was out of the norm with the first one, but after the second one I've experienced random sensitivity and pain with my back, especially the area that was administered. In the beginning I wasn't sure what was going on but I figured it had to be the epidural that was bothering my back. I don't think it's the injection itself, it's more likely the personnel that administered it. First time around I hardly felt a thing, but the second time around while injected I started to feel the pain. Maybe the person administering isn't experience and might have done it wrong? I'm not really sure, kind of hard to pin point unless I get professional answer from a physician.

  2. No problem here

maybe ask a doctor about it

  3. Marina,

To have this sensitivity in the area of the epidural needle injection site 5.5 years later suggests to me that you have some nerve damage there.  If it hasn't gotten any better in all these years, it is unlikely to improve much.  You will have to learn to manage it.

No epidural for me x2 - worked too many years in L&D.

  4. I had one about 4 months ago and have not felt a pain like that at all!  I think you should call your doctor and have him/her check that out!  They could have triggered a nerve or something like that!

  5. I've had 2 of them.  One 6 years ago and the other 20 months ago.

I have not experienced anything like that.

I would definently bring this up with your dr.

  6. I had bad pain with after mine for several weeks and every now and then can still feel pain in that spot when I move a certain way. It is probably just the scar tissue that irritates you.

  7. is that still going on?  I would go to your doctor to see what is wrong. I had an epidural but did ont have that type of reaction (any discomfort I had went away in a few weeks).

  8. I had an epidural both times.  I do not have that problem.  I am so sorry to hear about that for you.  I have heard about many problems with epidurals though.

  9. I have heard that mentioned here a couple of times, but personally I can't even tell where the epidural was inserted,  Maybe I am one of the lucky ones :)!

  10. I know exactly how you feel, but for me, it's not from the epidural. I've 2 of them (hoping for a 3rd), but I've always had sensitivity in that area. Almost like it tickles. I can't get a tattoo there b/c of it. I know I'd be clinging to the ceiling! LOL Not sure if maybe you had some light nerve damage, but it's obviously nothing to be concerned about. Check w/ your doc or chiropractor if you'd like to put your mind at ease.
