on recycling that we have now, don't you think returning to this practice would be better than producing so many plastic throw-away bottles?

  1. I recycle all my plastic botle and in fact the state that I live in has us pay a 5 cent deposit on each bottle.  That's the incentive to recycle.

  2. Plastic can be recycled at much less cost and by using much less energy.  Think about the energy it takes to heat up a boiler to melt glass...because those glass bottles were not just reused - they are melted and reformed into bottles again....

  3. to me yeah it would be great i mean they sell glass bottle root beer at wal-mart and it to me taste so much more fresh than a can or plastic bottle.. if things would go back to the way it was ... i think alot of things including our environment would be 50% better than it is now.. people respected each other more and things around them.. but only if glass was available again everyone would realize how much better things taste..

  4. Of course.

  5. What abotu the extra fuel to move them and the water to wash them, many things to consider

  6. recycling plastic seems easier than the hassle of everything that goes into reusing a glass bottle, from the store employees having to keep track and sort the returned bottles from the factories having to sort and clean them

  7. I agree...plus pop tastes better out of a glass bottle anyway.

  8. i am american i moved to germany about a year ago

they are huge on recycling in fact you get a fine if you dont recycle here. it is all free to recycle here unlike home where i had to pay 20$ a month to do so. i have to recycle paper, plastic cans and for certian glass i still get a refund for recycling it. most of the glass is either cleaned and reused or melted down for other things.

i think that america should pass the same laws there too.

for so many good reasons like a cleaner enviroment and less garbage fill up at the dump among other moore important reasons.

  9. Glass is heavy and brittle. It costs more to transport the heavy glass, which means it takes more fuel to transport. And it breaks into dangerous, sharp fragments too easily, which is why glass bottles are banned at things like football games. So plastic is not all bad.

Glass and plastic can both be recycled and both take a long time to break down in nature. I think glass takes even longer than plastic to break down. In fact, it does not chemically break down at all. It just breaks into smaller pieces until it returns to the sand from which it came.

In short, I don't see glass as more environmentally friendly than plastic.

  10. Yes it would... but in the meantime, why not just use aluminum? It is just as recycleable

  11. i agree with that...i don't use plastic (except for milk), only things that i can recycle.
