For you Genealogists, my GGGGF is my cousins GGGGGF. How do we define in Genealogy terms our being cousins ?

  1. Same GF = 1st cousins

    Same GGF = 2nd cousins

    Same GGGF = 3rd cousins

    Same GGGGF = 4th cousins

    Same GGGGGF =  5th cousins

    So, you and this fellow's dad are 4th cousins. He is your 4th cousin once removed, through his dad. (Change "he" to "she" and/or "dad" to "mom" if needed.) When you have children, they will be 5th cousins to this fellow. (Change "fellow" to "lady" if needed too.)


  2. Cousins share grandparents, and second cousins share greatgrandparents and so on.

    So that makes you 4th cousins-once-removed.
