  1. I would not eat at a dominican or puerto rican restaurant, unless I went w/ someone who knew the food.  But call it a Caribbean Style Restaurant, and I'll probably check it out.  Maybe divide the 3 types of food on teh menu, or, just list them, but put the country of origina in the menu description.

  3. Just call it a Caribbean-style restaurant; most gringos (myself included) wont know the difference. On you menu, you can have a small map to point out your special dishes and where they are from.

    Man-I could go for some tostones right now...

    Much of the food is similar and I would go with a combination of the foods.  

    Puerto Rican is a fusion of predominantly Spanish and African styles with hints of American and other influences, based on the region of Puerto Rican cooking.

    There are many soups and fish and other items that are often confused as Cuban, and they use quite a bit of the same ingredients, spices and bases, such as adobo and sofrito in their cooking.  

    Dominican food carries a similar fusion of cultures, as well as the regional culture existing prior to the arrival of other cultures.

    The food varies slightly, but typically uses similar ingredients.

    Cuban food has similar roots, though their international exposure to other cultures also include Asian and French cooking.  

    The Cubans offer similar dishes and bases as Dominican and Puerto Rican cuisine, but more readily stands out as traditional Cuban cuisine is simpler and sauteed or stewed and less likely to be deep fried, as many of the Dominican appetizers and Tapas can be.  

    I personally vote for Cuban, but if you are thinking of opening a restaurant, it would be simple to combine the three, as they use similar bases, and each have wonderful entrees, soups and appetizers that use similar ingredients typical tho their specific country.
