  1. Definitely Willie Mosconi.  Check out the last question asked about this topic for a more detailed explanation.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

P.S.  I love Reyes and he does play a variety of games, but the same could be said of Mosconi.  Mosconi once had an exhibition match with a champion snooker player and after a frame or two, Mosconi was actually beating the snooker champ at his own game.  Prior to that, Mosconi had not played snooker at all.  I will give Reyes an edge in shot-making, but what we're talking about here is the best all-around player.

I'd also like to comment on the remarks made by "jb1".  First of all, the term "billiards" is an all-encompassing term for all cue sports.  The word itself does not specifically mean carom games, pocket billiards (pool), or snooker.  It could mean any or all of the above.  Secondly, the question is asking for "you" who is the greatest...  Of course Americans are going to think of pool players first.  That's our game.  There just isn't near the same level of interest here for carom and snooker games.  So don't try to argue semantics and blame us for what we are accustomed to.

  2. Joe Davis in the forties and after that for snooker

  3. Efren Reyes

  4. For me this is a rhetorical question..a question that need not be answered as the answer is too obvious. Unquestionably, it's EFREN BATA "The Magician" Reyes. My answer is based on facts...see source below and just read the newspapers.

To put icing on the cake, he won the biggest prize in history...a whopping 500,000 US dollars. Likewise, he just won 2 out of 4 trophies in a recently-concluded 9-Ball Asian Tour sponsored by San Miguel and pocketing thousands of US dollars. He is the Michael Jordan of billiards because he elevated the level of competition by introducing safeties and eye-popping magical shots...hence the monicker..THE MAGICIAN. The awards? not less than 20 Word Titles and counting. Who will dare beat that? Not in a thousand years.....not..especially an Indian.

So those billard greats of the past maybe outstanding but the level of competition before was different. Since then, It has increased a thousand fold. This reality makes Efren not only the greatest player....but HE IS .....of all time.

World Pool Championship is around the corner. Reyes will simply ace it. Muscoloni?????

Nobody remebers him anymore ..except perhaps the dinasaurs....I admire their resilency to wirthstand the test of time..or shall I say...to defy the element of time...Good luck Reyes...my buddy.

  10. Everyone "digs" up Willie Masconi all the time or even "Fats"....they would not touch any of the players in todays games.......my choice would be Efren Reyes...Earl "the crybaby" Strickland a close second......."Tony R" answered "me" for his answer....if he is the Tony Robles professional pool player then I might put him in the mix as well
