Force Freeze expected to make a strong seasonal debut in the GP Sprint Championship at Gulfstream Park
The 7-year-old gelded sprinter, Force Freeze, will launch his 2012 campaign in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship after a game runner-up effort to, Amazombie, who eventually went on to be the Eclipse Champion Sprinter of the year, in the Grade
1, $1.5 million Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs last fall.
Trained by Peter R. Walder, Force Freeze went on to post a lone victory in the 2011 season’s seven starts in the Teddy Drone Stakes at Monmouth Park over at 6 furlongs.
Force Freeze prior to the Teddy Drone Stakes was racing at the Meydan, over the venue’s synthetic surface without anything to show. His poor show continued for six starts, where he continuously participated in six furlong sprints, but failed on each and
every occasion.
The Teddy Drone Stakes was Force Freeze’s first start on dirt after six starts, and his first start in the U.S., and he relished the opportunity by winning his debut race at Monmouth Park on 31 July, 2011.
He then turned in a game effort in the Grade 1 Vosburgh Stakes at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011, going at six furlongs, but failed to finish off, Giant Ryan in the stretch, as he finished a strong second on the day.
The Kentucky bred son of Forest Camp, out of mare Antifreeze by It’s Freezing, Force Freeze will likely be the horse to beat in the Grade 2 Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship, especially after his strong workout session at Gulfstream Park, where he turned
in a solid half-mile in 47 2/5 seconds starting from the gate on 12 February, 2012.
“That (work) put the finishing touches on him and we just have to keep him happy up to the race,” said trainer Peter Walder,
He further added:
“My only concern is the distance, particularly coming off the layoff. Seven furlongs is a tricky distance. I think he can run with any horse in the country at six furlongs. Paco (Lopez) is confident that the distance will be no problem. I’m excited to get
him started back.”
Saeed Naser al Romalthi’s Force Freeze will be making his first start at Gulfstream Park ever in the GP Sprint Championship.
