Force India aim fight back in the second half of 2012 Formula 1 season – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya has said that they are aiming to fight back in the second half of the 2012 Formula 1 season to challenge for sixth place in the constructors’ championship.
The Silverstone based team targeted fourth place in the constructors’ standings during the start of the current season. However, they have changed their plans now and are focussing to achieve sixth position because of tough competition amongst all the teams.
At present, they are at 8th position in the constructors’ rankings with 46 points. Although, they are just one point behind Williams which is quite easy to catch up but they still have a strong match with Sauber who are 34 points ahead of them.
Nevertheless, Mallya said that he is very much pleased with his team’s efforts in the season until now and admired the performance of his drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta. In addition, he said that they are making the essential step ups to make
a strong comeback in the season ahead and to regain their position as a competitive midfield contender.
“I've said many times already that this is the best start we have ever had to a season in terms of points scored,” Mallya said. “So from that perspective I'm satisfied and proud of what we have achieved in the first ten races. Our drivers are doing an excellent
job and we are working well as a team so there are lots of reasons to be positive. But at the same time I'm all too aware that we have a big fight on our hands to reclaim our sixth position in the championship.”
Besides, he said that there objective is to perform with consistency and to score some reasonable points in each and every race ahead. He also said that their main rival, Sauber have not been able to score even a single point in three of the first ten races
just like them while Williams have not pocketed any points in four grands prix. Therefore, he said that they must attain better results in the Hungarian GP to reclaim their place in the midfield.
