Force India aim sixth position in 2012 Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya has said that they are aiming to secure sixth position in 2012 Formula 1 World Constructors’ Championship and he insisted that podium finish is possible for them in the remaining races.
At present, the Silverstone based team is standing at 7th position in the constructors’ championship. Moreover, they are ahead of Williams and are behind their main rival, Sauber.
It will be important to note that the Swiss team has been considered as the strongest midfield contender in this year’s championship fight and it has a strong lead over Force India.
Nevertheless, Mallya has said that they are confidently looking forward to reduce the gap to the contender ahead of them and thinks that if they will be able to secure couple of podium finishes in the forthcoming races, they can surely fight for the sixth
place in the constructors’ rankings.
“There have been various moments where they've drawn away and we seemingly can't catch them, but all it takes is a podium finish that brings in a lot of points, and if we get a couple of them, we could still chase them down,” he said.
In addition, he said that although they have faced some difficulties in the season until now, nonetheless, he said that they are still feeling optimistic and are targeting to come up even stronger in the approaching races.
“As I've said before, we haven't had our fair share of luck yet this season,” he added. “Take the case of Spa - it was probably as close as we've had to a podium finish, but once again, it was not to be. But I'm an optimist and I don't give up!”
Besides, he said that there were many teams which were considered as the midfield rivals during the preceding year but have performed tremendously well in the current season like Lotus who are standing at 4th place in the rankings ahead of Mercedes.
Above and beyond, he said that they are focussing to score competitive points in the Singapore Grand Prix which is going to be held at Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 23, 2012.
