Force India aim to start 2013 with fifth fastest car in the field – Formula 1 news
Force India deputy team principal, Bob Fernley has said that their aim is to start the 2013 Formula 1 season with the fifth fastest car in the field for which they need to work very hard in the winter testing.
The Silverstone based team emerged as one of the most competitive midfield contenders during the last few races. However, they could not achieve much in the end as they lacked pace during the start of the season.
Nevertheless, Fernley has said that they are not feeling upset over the result of this season and are positively looking forward to maximise their potential in the next year.
Furthermore, he said that they are targeting to develop a competitive car in the winter in order to perform well right from the start of the next season.
“We have to be very encouraged by the second half of the season,” Fernley told AUTOSPORT. “The regulations are stable going into 2013. So apart from the development work you're going to do over the winter, fundamentally where you've finished now is where
you start in March. So we have to be to be encouraged, it's a strong package.”
Besides, he said that they have learnt a lot from their mistakes in this season and will hopefully come up stronger in the coming year.
“It's caught us out. Hopefully in 2013 that won't be the case,” he said.
“If you look at the stats, since the summer break, Force India's the fifth best performing team and Vijay will expect us to start there, it's as simple as that,” he added.
In addition, he said that all the contenders are working hard for the next season. Therefore, he asserted that they must make some significant advancement in the pre-season tests so as to compete well with their rivals.
It will be important to mention that Nico Hulkenberg of Force India is going to join Sauber in the coming year. Although, Paul di Resta’s race seat is pretty much confirmed, but the Silverstone based squad have not finalised their next year’s driver line-up
until now.
Let’s see who will drive alongside Di Resta in the next season.
