Force India aiming for 6th place in 2011 Formula 1 constructors’ standings – Formula 1 news
According to Force India’s chief operating officer Otmar Szafnauer, the team is aiming for the 6th place in the 2011 Formula 1 constructors’ standings.
Sauber are currently in 6th place with 35 points while Force India are in 7th with an impressive 26 points. Force India are ahead of Toro Rosso and Williams who are in 8th and
9th places with 22 and 4 points respectively in the constructors’ standings.
“This year has been a bit tough going so our goal is quite clear, to finish sixth,” he told the media.
There are just 8 races left in the 2011 Formula 1 season and one has to admit that anything can happen in both the drivers’ and constructors’ standings in these remaining races.
Even at the top of the standings, the championship fight is going pretty tough and in the midfield, Force India, Sauber, and even Lotus Renault GP are also going through a very competitive fight for the 5th place.
Lotus Renault GP are currently in 5th place with 66 points in the constructors’ standings and Szafnauer believes that Force India have the potential to score better results than Renault and probably take over their 5th place
in the constructors’ standings.
“Yes, but we need much luck, we are 31 points behind Renault. There problem is that after the top four teams there is not much left. If when the finish line comes we are nine and ten that would come together in the remaining eight races as only 24 points.
Not good enough,” he added.
Nevertheless, the team has improved a lot this year and they are looking extremely competitive now as they are qualifying in Q3 more often and one has to admit that Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil are doing a very good job for the team.
Di Resta has been scoring some pretty good results for the team despite the fact that this is his debut Formula 1 season and by the looks of it, they can easily defeat Sauber in the constructors’ standings if they improve their performance for the remaining
races.
