Force India aiming to score points in upcoming Valencia Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India team owner Vijay Mallya has said that his team is aiming to score some points in the upcoming Valencia Grand Prix after a disappointing race weekend in Canada recently.
Mallya also said that the VJM04 car was competitive in the Montreal race, but the drivers could not make good progress over there.
After the Canadian Grand Prix, the team owner warned both of his drivers, including Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta against ‘over-enthusiasm’ after they missed a chance to pick up some points for them at the Montreal race track.
He mentioned, “It was a weekend of unrealised potential as the luck did not go our way. Both drivers were a little over-enthusiastic, but this is all part of racing and we will take the disappointment on the chin and come back stronger next time.”
Mallya further added that they had a good strategy with the new Pirelli tyres in Canada, but their drivers were unable to perform strongly on the grid.
Force India driver, Sutil retired from the Montreal race weekend due to a collision with Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg during the closing laps of the race. His teammate di Resta collided with Renault’s Nick Heidfeld and due to that he had to pay a drive-through
penalty during the Canadian race.
Apart from that, di Resta discussed the upcoming European Grand Prix and added that the Valencia Street Circuit will be another track where more overtaking will be possible.
The Brit added, “Tyre wear will also be a crucial factor for the weekend because it's another street track and it's difficult to predict how the tyres will perform. In terms of my objectives, I think I'd be fairly happy if we can be pushing to make the top
10 in qualifying and racing for points.”
Force India are still unable to make an impressive run on the grid in the 2011 season. After a disappointing race weekend in Montreal recently, the team delivered some new parts to their car. However, they believe the new upgrades will be helpful for the
drivers and they can do well in the Valencia race.
