Force India are hoping to run the updates at Mugello – Formula 1 news
Force India is hoping to run updates in the upcoming Mugello test.
The parts that are required for the updates will not be ready until the morning of the first day of the test and the team is hoping that they will still be able to get the car ready with the new updates in time to have a go at the test.
Force India has been working on a major development package for their car ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix. The team is looking to put in the extra effort in a bid to improve upon its so far poor performance in the season.
Force India finished sixth in the Constructors’ Championship in 2011 their highest finish ever. This year the team was looking to move up a place and start challenging the mid field teams like Lotus and Mercedes.
It has not been the case though so far in the season and like Sauber and Williams have shown greater improvements and are on track to outplace Force India. The team will be getting some heart out of the Bahrain Grand Prix which saw the team score some vital
points as Paul di Resta finished 6th in the race.
Deputy team principal Bob Fernley is not sure when the parts will be ready to run but says that the team is going to make sure that they are ready for Barcelona, suggesting they will not rush into things but hopes of running in them in the Mugello test are
not out of the question.
“The developments are quite important, but the main thing is to run them in Spain,” he told AUTOSPORT. “Hopefully we can get some running of them in Mugello, but it depends on how everything flows through.”
“Mostly the parts are there: we have cleared about 85% but we need it at 100% - so we are close. Hopefully we can run it for one day, or one-and-a-half days at Mugello, and if it correlates on track to what we have in the wind tunnel then it will be a good
car,” he added.
