Force India boss Vijay Mallya aiming for double points finishes – Formula 1 news
Force India boss Vijay Mallya wants both his drivers Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta to finish in points with consistency in order to cement a strong position in the Constructor’s Championship of the 2013 Formula 1 season.
Before the start of the season, no one expected Force India to be strong, but the team has proved to be quite competitive in terms of race pace. There have been occasions, where both their drivers appeared to be in a position to finish in points, however,
things have not worked that way with consistency.
Out of the opening five rounds, there was only one time when the VJM06 scored double points, which has been a discouraging fact.
According to Mallya, “So far our weakness has been failing to get both cars home in the points and it’s something we need to remedy. With a little help from Lady Luck, who hasn’t been much on Adrian Sutil’s side lately, we will be able to score points with
both cars and firmly establish our position in the championship.”
Di Resta has managed to score 26 points until now, which has helped him stay in the top 10 ahead of drivers like Nico Rosberg and Jenson Button of Mercedes and McLaren respectively.
Compared to him, Sutil has not been able to get positive results for his team despite a very good start to the season in Australia. He was leading the season opener at one stage, but lost too many places in his final stint, which dropped him down to seventh
place overall.
Since then, the German has encountered bad luck, which is why he is down in 13th place in the Constructor’s Championship. However, he is hopeful of making a strong impression in the upcoming Monaco GP.
The German stated, “Monaco will be the first real street circuit, but I think we will be quick there. The car is very strong in the front with a very neutral balance so it’s very driveable.”
Last year, Force India managed to grab some decent points at the Monte Carlo circuit, which proves that their car is strong on slow and bumpy tracks. Therefore, the team will be eying a decent show in the upcoming event.
