Force India boss Vijay Mallya believes they must improve their performance – Formula 1 news
Force India boss, Vijay Mallya has said that they must improve their performance in the approaching 2012 Formula 1 season.
The Silverstone based team is currently standing at 8th position in the constructors’ championship with 28 points. Moreover, they are 22 points ahead of Toro Rosso and 16 points behind Williams.
Even though, they have emerged as one of the most competitive midfield contenders in this year, however, Mallya believes that they should strive to make further progress.
“I think Canada showed once again that Formula One is hard to predict at the moment,” he said. “It's seriously competitive with seven different winners in seven races, all of which is great for the sport - I would certainly go along with that. But while
it's hard to predict, we still need to lift our game, especially if we want to target fifth or sixth in the constructors' championship. Yes, we've had one of our best starts to a season ever in terms of points scored, but the teams around us have also performed
exceptionally well.”
At present, Force India driver Paul di Resta is at 12th place in the drivers’ rankings with 21 points between Williams’ pair of drivers, Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna, along with Kamui Kobayashi of Sauber.
Additionally, he secured 6th place finish in the Bahrain GP held at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir after setting off from 10th grid position which is his best performance in the season so far.
Meanwhile, his teammate, Nico Hulkenberg is currently at 15th place in the drivers’ championship with 7 points. Besides, he is 3 points ahead of Jean-Eric Vergne of Toro Rosso and 4 points behind Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Over and above, the German
driver came 8th in the Monaco GP which is his best finish in the season until now.
It will be important to mention that it is extremely hard to make any kind of predictions for the season ahead as there have been seven different winners in the first seven grands prix. Nevertheless, it will be quite interesting to see how the season makes
progress for all the contenders.
