Force India boss Vijay Mallya hopes for better results at Hockenheim and Budapest – Formula 1
Force India team principal Vijay Mallya thinks that a podium finish is possible for his team at the coming races of Germany and Hungary.
Mallya admitted that his team is going to need a bit of luck but says that the team definitely has the potential to get a podium finish considering how unpredictable the season has been.
Force India is currently placed eighth in the constructors’ championship which is not where the team would like to finish in the current season. In 2011, Force India managed to finish at sixth their best since they joined Formula 1. The target was to penetrate
the top five but 2012 has shown high competition which has led to teams like Williams and Sauber moving up the order.
Force India has looked below par for the most part in the season with a couple of displays of skilful driving from its drivers.
The team scored 16 points at Valencia and managed zero at Silverstone. Mallya hopes that the team does not get disheartened by this performance and work hard enough to perform better in the coming races.
“It's satisfying to see that we are consistent top ten performers,” Mallya said. “We need that little bit of extra luck to get on the podium. Having said that, our immediate competitors didn't have too much luck either [at Silverstone] - Perez and Maldonado
were both going well, but they didn't score. Sauber didn't get any more points to increase their lead over us. We are still only three points adrift of Williams and 16 behind Sauber, so we have reasons to be optimistic going forward.”
Mallya hopes that the Pirelli compounds are going to play a vital role in opening up the race at Hockenheim as it is going to be the first time Formula 1 goes to Hockenheim with the Pirelli compounds.
“Yes, it's wide open in that sense,” he said. “It's also Nico's home race. We have no time to take things easy. We have to take every race very seriously, with the same intensity and do everything we possibly can to earn more points.”
It will be interesting to see how the team fares in the coming races.
