Force India deputy team Principal Bob Fernley believes the team will improve – Formula 1 news
Force India deputy team Principal Bob Fernley has said that the team needs to work on its upgrade package in order to get the full potential out of the VJM05.
Force India has so far had a forgetful season as the team has struggled to perform. The only notable performance from the team was when Paul di Resta managed to finish sixth during the Bahrain GP with a very well managed two-stop strategy.
The Spanish Grand Prix results were worse as Nico Hulkenberg finished tenth while di Resta finished 14th. The recent development at the Williams camp has seen them competing for the top five slots and Sauber has shown that they are in the race as well that
has put more pressure on Force India whose target for the 2012 season was to finish in the top five. So far from the progress they have made in the season that seems unlikely to happen with competition becoming fierce with each passing race.
“From our point of view our upgrade has gone in successfully,” Fernley told the official Force India website. “I think we've still got a little bit more engineering to be able to optimise it. Two to three tenths of optimisation would have put us fifth, and
don't forget it was the first time we've run it.”
Fernley still has faith in the team of coming up with the goods and performing consistently throughout the season.
“We've seen a situation with Sauber in Malaysia where they came second and perhaps had the possibility of a victory. Williams were quite strong in Australia. Both have tailed off a bit and then Williams came back exceptionally strongly in Barcelona. Is it
peaks and troughs, or is it consistency?” he added.
Fernley added that Lotus and Force India are the most consistent teams so far in the season although they are not at the top but they are not far behind. He said that he will be a little surprised if Williams repeated their Spanish GP performance in the
season.
According to him Force India are not far behind from coming up with the desired results.
