Force India deputy team principal Bob Fernley backs Adrian Sutil – Formula 1 news
Force India deputy team principal, Bob Fernley has backed up their driver, Adrian Sutil and believes that the German will hopefully perform well in the forthcoming races despite a struggling start to the season.
“I felt really sorry for him, because he had the fourth quickest race pace [in Spain],” he explained. “He would finished fourth or fifth. Unfortunately it's one of those things. When was the last time Sahara Force India had a crossed threaded wheel nut?
These things just seem to happen at the moment.”
Sutil performed convincingly well in the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne and managed to secure 7th place finish after qualifying for 12th grid slot. Contrarily, he failed to score even a single point in the next two races as he was retired.
Later, in the Bahrain GP, although he showed an impressive pace during the qualifying, but failed to maximise on his 6th grid slot and couldn’t score any points for his team. In the Spanish GP, he struggled again and remained unable to attain any points.
At present, he is standing at 13th place in the drivers’ championship with 6 points. Furthermore, he is ahead of Nico Hulkenberg of Sauber and behind his main rival, Daniel Ricciardo of Toro Rosso.
On the other hand, his teammate, Paul di Resta has performed impressively well in the season until now and is standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 26 points. Besides, the British driver is ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind his
major competitor, Romain Grosjean of Lotus.
Even though, the 30-year-old has not been able to attain the expected results for his team, but he has got full support from all his team members.
Fernley has expressed that Sutil needs to remain strong despite a poor to this season. He also said that the veteran driver will hopefully get his pace back soon and will start to attain good results for his team.
“He's just got to be strong and get through it, and it will all come back in the right way,” he added. “As I said to Adrian, 'That's why we employ you, because you've got the mental strength to deal with it.’”
