Force India driver Adrian Sutil happy with ninth place finish in European Grand Prix – Formula 1
Force India driver Adrian Sutil has said that he is really happy with his ninth place finish at the recently held European Grand Prix.
Sutil told the media that it was his pure performance at the Valencia Street Circuit and he was satisfied with that.
The team driver admitted that they had a trouble free qualifying round and race day in Valencia. In addition, he added that losing eighth place in the closing laps was a shame for him, as he was fighting for his best finish.
The German discussed the Valencia race and mentioned that he had a fight with Renault’s Nick Heidfeld and Mercedes GP’s Michael Schumacher for a few laps, but finally he beat Heidfeld and finished his race at the ninth place ahead of him.
Sutil discussed Toro Rosso driver Jaime Alguersuari’s performance in Valencia and said, “I realised after my stop, because suddenly I was ninth, and I thought, 'OK, there's something wrong, for sure there's someone on a two-stop!' And it was him. I had the
feeling that two stops were possible before the race, but it was on the edge.”
He had a very close fight with Alguersuari during the last ten laps of the race. The Drag Reduction System did not work well and because of that, Sutil could not catch him.
The 28-year-old driver further added, “The first activation point was far too late, and the second was not necessary, because there's a third gear corner where you can't be close at all, and we lose so much in the exit that you are never close enough to
pass. I would need the whole first straight with DRS, but the activation was working 400m after the exit of the previous corner.”
Apart from that, the Toro Rosso driver talked about the upcoming British Grand Prix. He said that he is sure it will be another tough race weekend at the Silverstone circuit for the teams, as the track has high-speed corners.
After scoring decent points in Valencia recently, Sutil is looking forward to produce more points for the team in the British Grand Prix, which will take place on July 10, 2011.
