Force India driver Paul di Resta enjoying Mercedes’ interest in his performances – Formula 1 news
Paul di Resta made his Formula 1 debut this year in 2011 with Force India and he has been able to impress Mercedes with his performance up until now as he scored two point finishes in the first two races of the ongoing season.
Mercedes have been showing a lot of interest in di Resta’s performances as a result of which the young British driver is enjoying the attention.
Paul’s point scoring run came to an end at the 2011 Chinese Grand Prix where he finished in 11th place but still managed to give a very good performance as he qualified in 8th place ahead of his teammate Adrian Sutil who is more experienced
than the young British.
Mercedes have been interested in his performances as a result and since Norbert Haug stated that Paul’s opening races were ‘exceptional,’ the young rookie is happy with the attention he is receiving at the moment.
“Obviously I am close to Mercedes. They have had a huge influence on my career and I'm very grateful to them. It is great that people are talking but at the same time I have got to keep progressing,” said di Resta.
However, he stated that Force India have given him a huge opportunity in the sport and they have been very promising up until now. He claims that Force India have delivered what they promised as a result of which, Paul is also trying his best to score some
very good results for them.
The young British driver’s manager Anthony Hamilton, the father of Lewis Hamilton stated that Mercedes would be considering him as one of their options for the future but added that the team has not approached him or Paul up until now.
“I would like to think there is an interest. We've not spoken to anyone but for sure Paul is a Mercedes protégé and Norbert has said some very complimentary things about him. I'm just really proud of him. He has made a fantastic start and more importantly
he has done it in the right way,” said Hamilton.
Hamilton believes that di Resta did everything right in the first three races of the season as he finished each race and score twice as well in the first two races of his season.
Di Resta used to be Force India’s reserve/test driver back in 2010 but because of his impressive performances, the team decided to promote him as their full season driver as a replacement for Vitantonio Liuzzi. The team decided to keep Adrian Sutil on the
other hand and it seems that the team’s decision regarding Paul di Resta has started to pay off sooner than they expected.
