Force India driver Paul di Resta optimistic for an even better 2012 season – Formula 1 news
British driver of Force India Paul di Resta has said that the team is good enough to be in the top five teams of Formula 1.
Force India have been performing well for the last two seasons, in 2010 and 2011, and have seen quite a bit of improvement. They were placed 7th in the constructors’ in 2010 and finished 6th in the 2011 season.
The owner Vijay Mallya has been very passionate about his team and has made some good decisions to take the team where it is now. He was criticised by Indian media for not letting Indian drivers drive but the billionaire maintained that as soon as he sees
a good enough Indian driver he will be first one to ask him to drive for him.
Di Resta believes that the progress the team has shown has been immense, and said that the team is seeking to maintain the momentum into 2012.
“If you see the difference from where we started this year to where we moved on to, it has been incredible,” the Scot explained. “Those foundation blocks that we built earlier in the year were going to compromise us a bit, but we came out a much stronger
package towards the end of the year than we ever imagined we would be.”
“If we can keep that momentum continuing into next year then we can take it to our nearest competitors, who were Renault,” he further added.
Di Resta talked about the 2012 version of the car and said that he is hoping that it has pace and is competitive relative to their rivals.
Di Resta performed well in the 2011 season, helping his team achieve the 6th position. He secured 27 points and had a best finish of 6th at the Singapore Grand Prix.
The pre-season testing begins in February 2012 and that is when a good look at where all the teams stand can be taken.
It would be interesting to see how well Force India progress come next season.
