Force India driver Paul di Resta pleased with the start to his Formula 1 career
Force India driver, Paul di Resta was pleased with the start he got to his Formula 1 career, after scoring points in both the races of the 2011 season in Australia and Malaysia.
The 24-year-old driver ended 10th twice in consecutive races and is leveled at number 11 in the driver’s championship with teammate Adrian Sutil and Mercedes’ driver Michael Schumacher.
The rookie stated, “I wouldn't say I am surprised, but I am definitely feeling good about it. I went in with an open mind and that is what I have done. We've exceeded what we thought we were going to do, and we will stay very focused on that.”
Di Resta further added, “It was a bit unfortunate to lose that other point to Michael [Schumacher] in the end, but we had to cut our third stint a bit short as we were struggling on the tyres, and with four or five laps fresher tyres you could see what Michael
could do.”
The Scot was running ninth until the last few laps of the Malaysian Grand Prix, however, he was eventually caught by the seven-time Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher, who scored his maiden points of this season.
Comparing both the races of the season until now, di Resta rated his second race of the season better than the first one in Australia. The youngster finished outside the points initially, but fortune favoured him as Sauber’s drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Sergio
Perez were penalized for a technical infringement. Both were disqualified from the race, which pushed di Resta into the top ten.
Although the Force India driver has had a decent start to his career, he admitted that there are numerous challenges ahead of him. Di Resta also praised his teammate Adrian Sutil, calling the German a very good driver. He claimed he had learnt a lot from
Sutil and would continue to do so during the season.
The Scottish driver has a one-year contract with Force India, but hopes to get it extended for another season. He was also confident that if he continued to perform the way he has done, it will earn him better opportunities in the future.
