Force India driver Paul di Resta sparks interest from Mercedes GP: Formula One News
Force India driver, Paul di Resta has sparked interest from Mercedes GP after a positive start in this season’s Formula One Championships.
After a total of 3 Grand Prix, Mercedes GP have made little effort to keep their admiration for the young driver to themselves as Mercedes’ vice president Norbert Haug described the driver’s performance so far as ‘exceptional’.
While one could argue that teams are more than likely to praise potentially good drivers, in this case, it could also mean a certain seven-time World Champion to start packing. Michael Schumacher, after a hyped-up return to the motorsport last season, has failed to make much progress in his marriage with Ross Brawn.
The German driver has failed to register a single podium finish since making his comeback and has been consistently out-qualified by his younger teammate, Nico Rosberg. There have been reports that the veteran driver may not even be able to see the end of his 3-year contract, which is valid till the end of next season unless he improves on his on-track display.
Turning our attention back to the Force India driver, Paul di Resta seemed flattered by a possible Mercedes link. He commented,"You are always interested if teams like that (Mercedes) are interested. I definitely, one day, would like to be in a position for that, but at the same time I have said I am with Force India.”
The youngster indicated that he would honour his contract with Force India and would drive to the best of his ability till the end of the season.
Focusing ahead, di Resta added, "You never know for the future. I will just continue eyes forward and go on with what I have got set out, and there is a long way to go."
To further spice things up, the Force India driver is no stranger to the Mercedes way. The youngster used to drive for Mercedes in DTM (German touring cars) in the past. Touching upon that aspect, he concluded, "I have always said Mercedes have been a great influence on my career and I have been part of that family for a long time.”
