Force India driver Paul di Resta targets podium finish in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta has said that he has set a target of a podium finish in at least one of the races of the upcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Force India decided to stick with di Resta even though they let go of Adrian Sutil who had been with the team since they debuted back in 2008. Force India have been doing fairly well particularly in the previous season as they placed 6th in the constructors’
championship. They nearly gave Renault a run for their money for the 5th place.
Di Resta mentioned that he was very excited at the prospects of the team in the 2012 season as the team got a big boost with an investment of $100 million as Sahara India bought 42.5% stake in the team in October 2011.
“It will be difficult but we have got ourselves prepared for a podium,” di Resta told the Daily Express. “I see a bright future for the team and the partnership with Sahara will help to make our facilities better and give us a better car.”
The Brit had a good 2011 season himself as he scored 27 points for his team with a best place finish of 6th during the Singapore Grand Prix.
Nico Hulkenberg will be partnering di Resta for the 2012 season as he replaced Adrian Sutil. Hulkenberg is also considered a good driver and together with di Resta and a hefty investment by Sahara India, the team is looking set for a strong 2012 season.
The speculations for the upcoming season are that it will be a very tight contest unlike the previous two seasons which saw Red Bull dominate with its RB6 and RB7. Although RB8 is also expected to be quite competitive but without the blown diffuser advantage
Red Bull might not be the same force.
Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes are already tipped to be strong contenders for the title, and from the looks of it Force India would be happy to fancy a top five place finish. The first glimpse of their new car will be displayed during the first pre-season
testing in February.
