Force India driver Paul di Resta terms Canadian Grand Prix penalty ridiculous – Formula 1 news
Force India-Mercedes driver Paul di Resta has said that a drive through penalty for a collision with Renault’s Nick Heidfeld during the Canadian Grand Prix was ridiculous.
He also mentioned that he did not know how he was pushed to make that mistake and have a contact with Heidfeld.
Di Resta had a clash with Heidfeld at the final chicane of Montreal racetrack. Due to the contact, his car’s front wing was damaged and he was handed a drive through penalty.
The Scottish driver added that he had a better Canadian GP after a long red flag due to a heavy rain. He further added that the team was quite fast on supersoft compounds and moving in the right direction.
He discussed his contact with Heidfeld and said, “I'd had a chance of passing Heidfeld the lap before the incident, but thought I'd bide my time. I got another run on him, got alongside him, but where he was trying to brake and what he was trying to do,
he was never going to make the chicane and he took my front wing off.”
Di Resta lost his much of his lap time for the penalty, which pushed him to the bottom among the drivers. He took 18th for the team while Force India were clearly unhappy over his performance.
The 25-year-old driver kicked off to a good Montreal race weekend, where he finished his Friday practice session in a positive manner. His did well in the qualifying round as well as he secured an 11th place on the starting grid.
The team driver went on to add, “I've just got to give it a few days before I think too much about it. Obviously I'm going to be down and disappointed, but when I arrive at the next grand prix I have to be fully focused on trying to achieve more.”
After a disappointing race weekend in Canada, di Resta is hoping for his successful run in the upcoming European Grand Prix, taking place on June 26, 2011 in Valencia.
