Force India eyes F1 comeback of triple title winning Chris Dyer – Formula 1 news
Force India team is eying the return of triple title winning race engineer, Chris Dyer in F1 who left the sport in 2010 after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Dyer has been race engineer of the seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher and the 2007 world champion, Kimi Raikkonen at Ferrari and was made the head of engineering due to his relentless efforts.
However, he was sent to Maranello to monitor the road car division couple of years ago as Fernando Alonso could not win the title due to his poor race strategy in the 2010 Abu Dhabi GP.
Afterwards, he only appeared in an F1 paddock during the last year when it was reported that he may join Mercedes. Conversely, it has been recently reported that there are huge chances that he may comeback with the Silverstone based team.
Additionally, it is to be noted that the technical director of Force India, Andy Green has recently said that they have shifted their car development focus to the next year.
“It (the switch of focus) started a while ago,” said technical director Andy Green. “For a team of our size we can’t afford to develop a car much beyond this point in the season.”
At present, Force India are standing at 8th position in the constructors’ championship and have a tough competition with Williams and Sauber. Although, they targeted to finish at fourth position in the title battle this year, however, they have changed their goals and have said that they are focussing sixth place finish in this championship as the fight is very tight.
“At the moment we would be targeting sixth position, that would be a realistic target for us,” Green added. “It's going to be difficult. The cars in front of us are all very competitive. So it's going to be a big ask and we'll have to dig deep, and we'll be pushing like crazy right until the end. That'll be the plan and we'll see where we finishing.”
Over and above, they believe that the Australian race engineer who has a diverse experience in developing the race strategy can help them a lot in achieving better results in the future.
