Force India eyes podium finish in the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 News
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya has said that they are looking forward to secure a podium finish in the 2013 Canadian Grand Prix.
The Silver-based squad have performed impressively well in the season until now. Their driver, Paul di Resta, impressed everyone with his amazing performance in the Bahrain GP in which he secured 4th place finish after
taking a start from 5th grid slot.
On the other hand, Di Resta’s teammate, Adrian Sutil, came 5th in the Monaco GP after qualifying for 8th grid position.
After such incredible performances, Mallya believes that they are very close to score their first podium finish since 2009. In addition, he said that they have a very competent car with which they can surely achieve great results
at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
“I think we are now knocking on the door of our first podium finish since 2009, and it's time to do that all-important step,” said Mallya.
“Montreal would be a great place to do so it is a track that favours overtaking and our car has shown race pace to finish among the leaders, so everything is possible,” he said.
Besides, he said that he is proud of all his team members and admired their performance in the season so far. Moreover, he stated that they have achieved very good results in the first six races and are aiming to keep up their
level of performance in the season ahead.
“I am proud of everyone in the team because we have achieved good results and claimed 44 points, despite some very unfortunate occurrences,” he said.
It will be interesting to mention that Force India are currently standing at fifth place in the constructors’ championship and are ahead of their main rival, McLaren. The Indian has asserted that they are targeting to maintain
their position in the championship fight.
“With a bit more luck, we would be even further ahead of McLaren: but focus is on future,” he added.
He also said that they know their opponents will come prepared in Canada. Nevertheless, he expressed that they are ready to compete well with their rivals in the approaching race.
