Force India hope to announce their 2013 driver line-up in a couple of weeks – Formula 1 news
Force India Chief Operating Officer, Otmar Szafnauer has said that they will hopefully announce their 2013 driver line-up in a couple of weeks.
Nico Hulkenberg of the Silverstone based team has planned to move to Sauber in the next year where he is going to replace Sergio Perez.
On the other hand, Perez has decided to join McLaren and will replace Lewis Hamilton who has signed a new contract with Mercedes as Michael Schumacher’s replacement. Moreover, the seven-time world champion has said goodbye to the sport.
Hulkenberg and his teammate, Paul di Resta have performed tremendously well in this season and has successfully attained competitive results for their team. Even though, the veteran German driver is going to leave the squad at the end of this year, but Di
Resta is expected to remain in the team for the coming season.
It will be important to mention that there have been a lot of reports stating that Force India is searching for a driver who has a huge sponsor with him. However, Szafnauer has completely dismissed all the ongoing speculations and has said that they are
looking for a talented driver and the sponsorship is not that important.
“I am a believer that you need someone like that,” Szafnauer told Autosport. “Not everyone does, and it is a subconscious thing. You think you are driving the best you can, but there is nothing like competition for us humans to really sharpen our focus,
attention and skills in all sort of stuff.”
Besides, he said that they are currently evaluating some potential options for their next year’s driver line-up and will announce it soon.
“If you have competition you end up driving yourself more,” he added. “We will announce everything in a couple of weeks. We have a pretty short list of candidates now.”
Additionally, he said that they are targeting to come up even stronger in the coming year in order to secure a better place in the constructors’ championship.
It will be interesting to see who joins Force India in the next season and how they compete with their rivals.
