Force India looking to maintain sixth position in 2011 constructors’ championship – Formula 1 news
After a successful 2011 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Force India are looking to maintain their sixth position in the constructors’ standings until the end of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Both of the drivers Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta finished the recently held Abu Dhabi race in the top ten positions and scored the points as well.
After the race weekend at the Yas Marina Circuit, the team boss Vijay Mallya talked to the media and said that both of his drivers drove faultlessly throughout the Grand Prix.
He added that he is very optimistic with their performance in the race as a team, which puts them in a much stronger position with a 15-point advantage over their nearest competitor, Sauber.
Mallya further stated that he feels confident that they can go to Brazil in the ending days of November to finish their best possible job and confirm their sixth place in the standings.
Apart from Mallya, the Silverstone-based outfit driver Sutil talked to the media and mentioned that the team’s result in the Abu Dhabi GP was great for the team and just what they needed.
Talking to reporters, the German commented, “I spent a lot of the race fighting with Schumacher and managed to get ahead of him for the middle stint. But I probably went one lap too long in the middle stint and he got ahead of me when we were both on the
medium tyre at the end of the race.”
He started the race from the ninth position at the Yas Marina Circuit and after putting all of his efforts, he ended up in the eighth spot for the team.
On the other hand, his teammate di Resta said that as a team they can be pleased to have better results in the end of the 2011 Abu Dhabi race.
The Scot added, “When I switched to the softs the speed of the car was very strong. To do a one-stop race and come away with two points is as much as we could really hope for.”
Let’s see whether Force India retain their position until the end of the ongoing season or not.
