Force India looking to secure sixth place finish with solid showing at Brazilian GP – Formula 1 news
Force India have vowed that they will not show any complacency and maintain their sixth place in the constructors’ championship.
Force India are placed sixth ahead of Sauber and Toro Rosso, and are determined to maintain that position. One significant reason behind the motivation to do well would be the handsome prize money the team will collect if it is able to finish sixth by the
end of the last race of the season to be held in Brazil later this week.
The Britain-based team scored six points at the Abu Dhabi GP, which has given them a much-needed lead ahead of its direct competition, but it is still not unassailable, and that is why the team’s chief operating office Otmar Szafnauer said that he does not
want the team to take anything for granted. They will be gunning for top ten finishes for both of their drivers, so that they can confidently secure their position.
“The gap is not insignificant, but it's not insurmountable, so in Brazil we still have to do everything we can to get both cars in the top ten in qualifying and in the race,” he said.
“Things that are out of our control, like the weather, we'll just have to see. The weather can throw up some unexpected results and in Brazil at this time it can rain, so it does happen,” Szafnauer further added.
He also expressed that the team felt very confident of a good showing at Interlagos next weekend, though he conceded that the advantage they had in Abu Dhabi will not be there.
He said their driver Adrian Sutil knows the track well and is pretty quick on it. All the team needs to do is to avoid any mistakes and everything else will fall into place.
“That's exactly what we're trying to do,” Szafnauer said. “We have to maximise our performance to the end.”
The team lost the sixth place position last year in 2010 and this time around, the team is definitely looking to ratify last year’s mistakes and finish with a solid performance, which will set them up very nicely for the 2012 season.
