Force India owner Vijay Mallya calls upon Formula 1 teams to agree to RRA – Formula 1 news
Force India owner Vijay Mallya has called upon Formula 1 teams to agree on to the framework of the Resource Restriction Agreement (RRA) in order to make sure that the future of the sport is safe.
There have been a lot of discussions growing on this topic and it has been a long and complex procedure. Teams, drivers and other personnel associated with the sport all have had their say in the issue and there no clear verdict of how it is going to make
everyone happy and satisfied.
Most do believes that cost cutting and budgeting is required but the extent of the cuts and the things that need to be cut in the name of cost cutting is something that is not finding agreement.
The sport’s governing body has announced that after the World Motor Sport Council meeting which is going to produce the final verdict on the implementation of cost control measures for the 2013 season.
“I think that the RRA is something that everybody agrees to, in principal,” Mallya said in an interview on the official F1 website. “The concept of the RRA is a must-have if F1 is to survive in the long term.”
“Even when FOTA was together – and active – all the teams agreed with the concept of resource restriction,” added the Indian billionaire. “In fact I would go one step further and say that the RRA was one of the reasons why FOTA was created. And then one
by one, teams went in their own directions so we never had the chance to agree.”
Mallya added that RRA would be beneficial to ensure that mid-budget teams would be able to continue to challenge the bigger teams. The way things are going in the current season is much like the situation that the midfield teams look for in a season. It
allows them to hope to challenge the big teams for the top spots.
Williams have won a Grand Prix race in the season which was a surprise, Sauber has had a podium finish and Lotus are challenging for the Constructors’ and the Drivers’ Championship.
