Force India rookie Paul di Resta admits tough time in Monaco Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Force India driver Paul di Resta has admitted that he had a very hard time at the recently held Monaco Grand Prix.
He added that the red flag due to a crash in the closing laps hampered his bid to score some points.
Resta took a positive start in the Monte Carlo race weekend and due to that, he was hoping to secure some points to impress in the 2011 Formula 1 season. However, after getting a penalty before the sixth last lap of the race, he could not do so.
Due to a collision with Toro Rosso, he was penalised by the race stewards during the Monaco Grand Prix which ruined his chances of a positive finish for him. After the race, the Scot added that he faced several incidents during his run in ongoing season
that really discouraged him.
He discussed the Monaco race and said that he had quite a smooth start to the race and his strategy was improving during the weekend. After some laps, he received a signal to overtake Toro Rosso’s Jaime Alguersuari. However, in doing that, he made contact
with him.
He further added that when he made a contact with the Toro Rosso driver, his car’s front wing was badly damaged and due to that, he had to take his second stop early.
He mentioned, “I have to hold my hands up for this accident because I was probably a bit too ambitious. Sometimes these things happen. But what I was quite annoyed about was that he got blue flags to let Lewis by, but I was behind Lewis and I never got the
blue flags.”
The 25-year-old driver was expecting a trouble-free race in Monte Carlo, as the team has delivered several upgrades to their 2011 car. However, he made some mistakes which cost him a lot in the end.
Di Resta ignored everything that was happening in the race and finish his run in the 12th spot.
He went on to add, “At the same point I'm going to be very critical of myself and it was me to blame. I'll just continue to try and rebuild on. In terms of everything else my grand prix was quite enjoyable. I certainly enjoyed driving here.”
On the other hand, his teammate Adrian Sutil completed his run successfully on the Monaco grid and finished in 7th place. The team has planned to introduce more upgrades to their car for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix scheduled to take place
on June 12, 2011. Let’s see how it works out for them.
